Looking Back on 2021: An End of Year Reflection

As 2021 comes to an end and the holiday season is upon us, I want to take this opportunity to reflect on this past year with its many unique obstacles, opportunities, and successes.

At HomeFront, we have begun to adjust to this new normal. The pandemic has taught us to adapt and pivot, and, ultimately, we have come out stronger as a team. We chose to see the opportunities within the challenges that we were presented, and this has allowed us to think differently and create new efficiencies throughout our agency.

While this past year had many obstacles and uncertainty, the HomeFront team remained resilient and dedicated, ensuring that our partnerships remained strong and our clients continued to be supported. In May, HomeFront’s Case Management Team received the Partnerships, Collaboration and Connections Award in the Bhayana and United Way Agency Appreciation Awards. This award acknowledges the team’s dedication and innovation in their approach to collaboration, partnership, and connection in their work.

Although several events were cancelled, many pivoted to virtual or hybrid models. We were even able to participate in some in-person events operating under the current COVID-19 guidelines, including the Holt Renfrew charity shopping day, A&W Auburn Bay’s fundraiser, and Gogh for HomeFront. It was wonderful to be together as a team, speaking with the community about the work we do at HomeFront.

HomeFront was also proud to once again be selected as one of the 10 charity organizations supported by the 2021 Calgary Corporate Challenge’s annual Charity Challenge, an event that gives companies a chance to promote philanthropy and goodwill by supporting local charity partners. Through a series of “Giving Opportunities” including virtual information sessions, bottle drives, and gift card donations, corporate teams helped to raise funds and awareness in support of HomeFront and the families we serve.

Throughout the year, HomeFront was invited to speak at several virtual conferences, forums, and broadcasts. These virtual information sessions have created a new way for HomeFront to generate awareness, expand our reach, and share our actionable learnings with those involved in counteracting the complex issue of domestic violence.

For these and many more successes, highlights, and achievements, I thank all of you – our partners, funders, donors, and staff – for your unwavering dedication and support of HomeFront. Because of your commitment, we were able to rise above the challenges to meet demands, seize opportunities, and move forward our mission. As we approach the New Year with a clear vision and a deep passion for the work we do, I am excited for what is to come and eager to share and celebrate those successes with you.

I hope that this holiday season is filled with joy, happiness, and good health. We wish you the best for the New Year and look forward to our continued work together in 2022 to support families in our community to live safe and healthy lives free of domestic violence.
