Although we weren’t able to get together to march in person through the streets for Pride this year, HomeFront was thrilled to participate in our seventh annual Pride Parade this past Sunday in support of healthy and safe relationships for everyone.

Calgary Pride organized a fantastic blended festival for Pride Week, filled with fun in-person and online events. The 2021 Parade Day was a drive-in extravaganza at the Telus Spark Drive-In, featuring local performers and a virtual Parade! We are very excited that HomeFront had a submission in this year’s virtual Parade; check out our video showcasing some of HomeFront’s favourite memories of previous Pride Parades!

Celebrating Pride and supporting the LGBTQ2S+ community is extremely important to HomeFront. LGBTQ2S+ individuals can experience unique forms of domestic violence and can face distinctive barriers that can prevent them from disclosing abuse and seeking help.

We are committed to ensuring we are a safe, inclusive organization for LGBTQ2S+ individuals. Our staff have received training on domestic violence within the LGBTQ2S+ community and how to best support LGBTQ2S+ clients. We work to leverage partnerships with community agencies to help reduce barriers and create equitable service delivery for all.

There are a number of safe and inclusive agencies that can help if you or someone you know in the LGBTQ2S+ community is experiencing domestic violence. These include: Sagesse, Carya, and the Strathmore Shelter by the Wheatland Crisis Society. If there is immediate danger, call the police.
