Indigenous Initiatives

Since our inception, HomeFront has worked alongside Indigenous communities in Calgary and the surrounding area in the development of their own coordinated domestic violence response. By creating connections with Indigenous communities and discovering opportunities to engage community members in responsive and sustainable domestic violence prevention and intervention strategiesinitiatives such as the Calgary Indigenous Court and Safety of Indigenous Women in Urban Settings have been developed.  

Truth & Reconciliation Commission: Call to Action 39

We call upon the federal government to develop a national plan to collect and publish data on the criminal victimization of Aboriginal people, including data related to homicide and family violence victimization.

Truth & Reconciliation Commission: Call to Action 40

We call on all levels of government, in collaboration with Aboriginal people, to create adequately funded and accessible Aboriginal-specific victim programs and services with appropriate evaluation mechanisms.

Calgary Indigenous Court

The Calgary Indigenous Court aims to provide a culturally relevant system of justice for Indigenous individuals by focusing on a peacemaking and restorative justice approach. 

Safety of Indigenous Women in Urban Settings

The Safety of Indigenous Women in Urban Settings collective is a new initiative that aims to address the disproportionate levels of violence faced by Indigenous women.
