Early Case Resolution

A primary function of the domestic violence court in Calgary is to provide an opportunity for early case resolution. Early Case Resolution, or ECR, is a collaboration that consists of HomeFront partners which include police, crown, probation, child services, defense counsel, and HomeFront. By working together and case conferencing, these partners determine best outcomes and possible resolutions for the domestic violence cases before the Court.

HomeFront’s role in this collaboration is to engage in discussions that ensure victim voices are considered in the court process, to aim to expedite court matters through the justice system, and to ensure healthy and safe futures for the families. Victims have the opportunity to inform these discussions by providing their wishes through HomeFront, which can include the level of contact they would like to have with the accused and their suggestions on treatment and counselling.
